Programs and Services

2-1-1 is an easy to remember telephone number that, where available, connects people with important community services and volunteer opportunities. The implementation of 2-1-1 is being spearheaded by United Ways and comprehensive and specialized information and referral agencies in states and local communities. United Way of America (UWA) and the Alliance for Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) strongly support federal funding so that every American has access to this essential service.

CAPIS

Crisis intervention, information, linkage and crisis prevention services for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.  Provides parent support groups, life planning, benefits counseling ,newsletter and educational seminars.

COMPEER

Compeer is a program that matches individuals who have a mental illness in a one-to-one friendship with community volunteers.  Compeer helps to bridge the gaps of services already in place for individuals with mental illness.  The friends agree to visit with each other for at least 4 hours a month for one year.

COMPEER

Homeless

Provides rehabilitative services to mentally ill homeless individuals including assistance with social, vocational and educational needs at Emergency Housing in Middletown and Project Life in Newburgh.

FAMILY SUPPORT

Provides self-help groups, newsletters, advocacy and educational services to families and friends of persons experiencing mental or emotional disabilities.

FRIENDS

A social skills group for youth between the ages of  9 and 16 with social, behavioral or emotional difficulties. Groups meet throughout Orange County.

24- hour Hotline provides crisis intervention, information and referrals, 7 days a week, for all residents of Orange County.

Home-to-Stay

A joint project between MHA, Rehabilitation Support Services and National Alliance for the Mentally Ill in Orange County to provide supported housing with intensive support services for individuals with psychiatric disabilities.

Hudson House

A club based on the psycho-social model, which offers vocational service, supported education and an opportunity for social interaction to persons with a psychiatric disability.  Subsidized housing with case management services are available as well.

Invisible Children's Project

Family case management and supportive housing for adults with a psychiatric disability and their children.  Respite childcare, art therapy and in-home clinical consultant services are available.

ISS (Individual Supported Services)

ISS is a funding stream, which creates more independent housing opportunities for persons with developmental disabilities.

Medicaid Services Coordination (MSC)

Medicaid Service Coordination (MSC) is available for individuals who have a developmental disability, Medicaid and meet other eligibility requirements.

Project Liberty

Project Liberty is a coordinated outreach and crisis counseling community based program.  It offers free supportive counseling services to individuals, families, and groups affected by the events of  September 11th.  It provides one-to-one or group counseling in homes, schools, businesses, offices, places of worship and wherever is convenient.  Educational services about disaster reactions and healthy living are provided.  There is also a referral service designed to provide needs-specific support and interventions.
